Edmonton Cake Smash Photography Session Prep Guide With Suzi

Your baby is turning one.. Congratulations!

You did it, you survived the first year, and it is time to celebrate!

I am so happy you are here! You may have probably already booked with me for your Edmonton cake smash photography session, or are thinking about it. Yay! My clients are the heartbeat of my business. You are my passion, my excitement, and my dream. I have put together a step by step guide on how you and your family can prepare for a cake smash photography session with me.

Cake smashes are one of the funnest photo sessions your little one will ever do.. I mean, when will they ever get to destroy & eat a whole cake to themselves ever again? Trust me, you want to see this. 😉 (See some little ones getting messy here.)

Here are some tips to help your cake smash session run as smooth as possible:

What to wear: Some parents prefer their little one to be diaper only (in this case bring a plain diaper cover if you have one). Other’s prefer cute outfits. Honestly- this one is totally up to you! Whatever is comfortable or fits well will keep your little one happy.

What to bring:

• Any of their favourite things to help ease them into a new space. Maybe your little one wants to help me take a picture of bunny first? Maybe they want to sit on their favourite blanket for a minute? Us mamas have to stick together and *do whatever it takes*. 😉
• Small snacks. Sometimes if your little one is having a hard time warming up to the cake, we can stick a few of their fav small snacks in the back of the cake (cheerios, puffs, etc) to get them reaching into the cake.
• You can also bring some milk for comfort.

What to prep:

• Feel free to download their favourite show on your phone. I’ve gotten pretty good at holding my camera in one hand and Cocomelon in the other. 😉
• Try not to fill your baby’s tummy right before the smash or they will not reach for the cake.

What to expect:

I will send you a confirmation email the day before your session that will contain my exact address (2 minutes from West Edmonton Mall). You can park in the driveway and go around to the back door where I will meet you and bring you to my heated and cozy studio. We will take our time to let your little one explore the studio before we start prompting them to sit! Once we have them sitting comfortably, I will bring out the cake! Let the fun begin!

Choosing your photos: Once you are home I will go through all of your images and narrow it down to the best images. You will then receive a proofing gallery of the unedited images where you will be able to select your favourites, and any photography products you would like to purchase. Once you have finalized your selection, I will begin editing for you and deliver your online gallery within 2-3 weeks.
