Edmonton Cake Smash Photoshoot FAQ’s

Here are some of my most FAQ’s that parents ask while looking for an Edmonton Cake Smash Photoshoot for their child’s first birthday.

1. When is the best time to book an Edmonton cake smash photoshoot?

Edmonton cake smash sessions tend to fill up quickly, so I recommend reaching out when your baby is around 8–10 months old. That gives us plenty of time to plan and ensures you receive your photos before their big day. That said, last-minute spots may be available depending on the season, so it’s never too late to ask!

2. What is the ideal age for my baby’s cake smash?

Over the years, I’ve found the ideal time is around 11 months old. This gives us time to complete your gallery before your baby’s first birthday, so you can use the photos for party decor or invitations. Some parents prefer to book the session closer to their actual birthday, it’s totally up to you!

3. What is included in our Edmonton cake smash photoshoot?

I have 2 cake smash packages (you can see them here) that provide different options. Both packages include decor set up, tear down, and clean up!

4. How long does a cake smash photoshoot last?

Depending on your baby’s mood, first birthday cake smash sessions typically last 30-60 minutes.

5. What does booking involve? Deposit and contract details?

I will send you a booking proposal that contains 3 documents.

1. An invoice for a non-refundable retainer that will hold your date in my booking system.
2. A contract to sign.
3. A questionnaire to fill out.

6. What if my baby has allergies or dietary restrictions?

One of my packages is priced lower for parents who prefer to bring their own cake — perfect if your baby has allergies or dietary restrictions. I also love doing alternative smashes (like yogurt, fruit, or spaghetti)!

7. What if my baby doesn’t want to eat the cake?

That’s more common than you might think! I have a few tried-and-true tricks to help encourage interaction with the cake, all of which are included in your prep guide. (BONUS: whatever your baby doesn’t eat, you get to take home and enjoy! 😉)

8. What if we need to reschedule?

Life happens. If you need to reschedule, just give me as much notice as possible. Same day reschedules may incur a fee (as outlined in your contract). If a custom cake has already been ordered and won’t last, you may need to provide a new one for the rescheduled date.

9. Is your studio clean?

Absolutely! I clean and sanitize the studio before and after every session. It’s important to me that you feel comfortable bringing your little one into a clean and safe space, especially when there’s crawling and cake involved.

9. How do I prepare for my cake smash photo session and what should I bring?

You’ll receive a detailed preparation guide after booking that covers everything you need to know including what to bring, what to expect, and how to help your baby get ready.

10. When and how do I receive my photos?

I will send you a proofing gallery within one week of your session. From there, you will choose your favourites and pay any outstanding balance. Once that is complete, I will deliver your password protected high-res digital gallery within 2-3 weeks. (I state up to 4 weeks in my contract incase of emergency!)

11. I don’t want my photos posted online, is that okay?

Of course. While photographers solely rely on sharing content, I do understand & respect the decision to not have your images online. I may ask if you are comfortable with me taking & posting macro images that do not contain any identifying information (toes, fingers, etc).
